The Porch

“You and I have an average of about seventy or eighty years on this earth.  During these years we are bombarded with the temporary.  Make Money.  Get Stuff.  Be Comfortable.  Live Well. Have Fun.  In the middle of it all, we get blinded to the eternal.  But it’s there.  You and I stand on the porch of eternity.”

Now we will admit that we took this quote and ran with our interpretation.  We don’t believe David Platt intended for us to take it in this direction.  So here is where it took us.

The idea of life taking place on the porch of eternity got us thinking about our students and where they are in life.  Thinking creatively spring-boarding from the “porch” idea, we asked the questions: Are they “walking down the street, at the block party, in the yard, or on the porch with us? Truth is there are students in every one of these categories.

We came to realize that our goal is to move each student from walking down the street to being in close community with us on the porch.  This is done by being intentional with every opportunity we have to reach every student in every category.

Weekday Wardrobe

As a staff wide (someday church wide) initiative, the student ministry staff has taken it upon ourselves to bring the weekly wardrobe to a new level.

Thus introducing to you all the Weekday Wardrobe as follows

Man-Dime Monday - This was inspired by Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory.  A man-dime being the male version a perfect 10.  This is the opportunity for the guys to dress to impress and truly step up their game.  This may include, Deep V's, Muscle Shirts, Vests, it is truly up to the Man to decide.

Tie Tuesday - This day is fairly self-explanatory.  Today is the day to bring your sunday best.  The guys must wear a tie or they suffer embarrassing harassment by the others.  The women are also called to dress in a tie or their best business dress.  Come on ladies break out those women suits.  Great day to look like true business men.

White Pant Wednesday - This is the most specific of the days, simply wear white pants.  This can be white pants, skirt, shorts, or jumpsuits.  Does not matter as long as they are a vibrant, pure white.  Be bold and ignore the fashion faupaux and rock those disgusting white pants on Wednesday.

Throwback Thursday - This is an opportunity to get old school.  Break out all of those Vintage Sports T's, Go Hippie, Go Disco, or Go Grudge.  As long as it is Throwback you are golden.

This concludes our work week and thus concludes the Weekday Wardrobe.  Feel free to spread the word and join in on this phenomenon that is sweeping the Greenwood Area.

Can't wait to see what you guys can come up with.

King's Island 2011

If you were unable to come, the Student Ministries spent a crazy hot day at King's Island yesterday, with much of the time spent at the Spalshin' Safari.  At one point the temperature reached 99 degrees.  Despite the heat coasters were rode, dinosaurs were seen, snakes were wrangled, and fun was had.  Here is just a preview of the pictures to come from a great trip.
